The major change for this past year was, all my trips were out
of a boat. I did some bank fishing but , that was for catching
skipjacks form bait. The Ohio River here at Cincinnati was below
28 feet from mid-May till late November. The spring and up till
mid-May I did not have any cut bait to use. I therefore had to
make do with some unusual baits. This included tuna blood vein,
deep fried chicken skin, seasoned cooked and raw steak. Once I
did get some shad and skipjacks they became my main sources of
bait.
For the year I caught: 12 Blue cats. The largest was 10.7
pounds. 6 Flatheads. The largest was 19.2 pounds. 43 Channel
Cats. The largest was 12 pounds. 2 Carp The largest was 7
pounds. 3 Sheephead Perch The largest was 5.3 pounds.

Over the year I was SKUNKED 8 times. That is one thing I want
to reduce next year. I normally fish around 4 ½ hours per trip.
I believe if the fish are biting that will give me plenty of
action. If the fish have lock jaw that day then, I pack it in
and head home. I do hope to do better than 2 fish per trip in
2006. I intend to stock up on some more skipjacks for my freezer
during February and March. I already have some packets of shad
in the freezer, so will have cut bait for my early trips in the
spring.

Winter Time Is Midge Time When Fly Fishing For Trout
Let's face it, we dream in Technicolor of size 10 green drake hatches or Hexagenia Limbata as big as beavers - but the reality is Winter Time Is Midge Time. Often the only bugs on the frigid water are so small; they challenge most anglers to...
Techniques of Wet Fly Fishing
Many anglers who are new to fly fishing consider dry fly fishing the “traditional” way of catching trout. Well, that’s not entirely true. Wet fly fishing dates back hundreds of years, well before dry fly fishing came around.

Basic Carp Fishing Pointers Frustrating as it is, carp fishing is awesome. Carp are really
good at sucking in and blowing out suspicious baits. It's such
an excitement to see the whole action in a fraction of a second
as you hang on for dear life while the reel is trembling...
